Help us restore the Port Exploreum!

Please donate to the restoration of the Maritime Level of the Port Exploreum.  We are adding a port hole as part of our exhibit on this level, and are looking for donations specifically for this item.  All donations will be recognized at the Port Exploreum, and much appreciated by all who visit us.

Gifts of security can provide the donor with a tax deduction and avoid capital gains tax. You may make a gift of securities to the Port Exploreum through your broker. In order to assure proper credit for your gift, we will need to know your name, the name of the stock, the number of shares and the transfer date. The gift is complete when the stock is transferred. For information on gifts of stock and securities, please contact us at 262-284-2406. Please note: Do not sell the securities; you must transfer the securities to the Port Washington Historical Society brokerage account to receive the most advantageous tax treatment. Back to top

Matching Gifts

Many companies will match the contributions that employees (some match retired employees as well) make to nonprofit organizations such as the Port Exploreum Museum. Under a corporate matching gift program, gifts made by a company’s eligible employee or employee’s spouse are matched with company or corporate foundation funds—sometimes doubling or tripling the initial gift. To initiate a matching gift, ask your personnel or human relations office for the company’s matching gift form and send it along with your donation. Please note that a matching gift does not increase your charitable deduction but does count toward your total giving for recognition in our records. Back to top

Gifts in Kind/Artifacts/Photos/Exhibit Development

In addition to financial contributions, we welcome donations of goods and services that support our operations. These may include tangible gifts of office equipment and furniture, or needed services such as landscaping and architectural design, painting and repairs, or printing services to name a few. In addition, we continuously seek artifacts, photographs or other pieces of Port Washington history for our collections. Please call us at 262-284-2406 if you have something for us.

Please understand that we might not be able to accept all items. Donations might be declined if the items cannot be used, stored, or readily sold. Back to top

Retained Income Gifts

An easily established trust can provide a current charitable deduction in addition to income to you during your lifetime. This meaningful gift can be especially appealing by increasing the income you receive from low-yielding stocks. The income can be distributed to you, your spouse or other designee, after which the assets would be distributed to the Port Exploreum. Back to top

Life Insurance

The contribution of a life insurance policy can provide a significant gift in a manner that can be especially attractive to younger donors. The Port Exploreum offers recognition for the amount of the annual premium. By designating the Port Exploreum as both the owner and beneficiary of a life insurance policy, the premiums are tax-deductible to the donor. If a fully paid life insurance policy is gifted the cash surrender value of the paid policy at the time of the gift is deductible to the donor. Back to top

Making a legacy gift to the Port Exploreum Museum is a powerful way to demonstrate your lasting support. There are many simple ways to make a planned gift.

Charitable Bequests. One of the easiest ways to make a legacy gift is through your will. Working with your attorney, you can provide specific instructions in your will for establishing a bequest. One of the greatest benefits of a Charitable Bequest is that it does not affect your financial position since it is fulfilled only after you no longer need the funds. Planning a gift through your will or estate can also provide significant tax advantages. There are many options for Charitable Bequests including: A bequest is a gift made through a donor’s will and is the simplest and most common planned gift. The advantages of making a gift through a bequest are that the donor does not have to part with any property until after death and gift and estate taxes are avoided. Distributions can be made either as a specific dollar amount or as a percentage of the estate.

Life Insurance Policies and Retirement Account. Another simple way to make a legacy gift is by designating the Port Exploreum as a beneficiary to a life insurance policy or retirement account. Like a Charitable Bequest, this option provides significant tax advantages.Always please consult your attorney, tax adviser and/or financial planner to make certain a planned gift is the right choice for you and your family.
